There are two roads to the pagodas and the caves at Thuy Son mountain: the east is a gate of 108 steps leading to Linh Ung Pagoda, the west is a gate of 156 steps leading to Tam Thai pagoda. Usually visitors will follow the West gate to go up the mountain and down the mountain at the East gate.

According to history books, Thuy Son is the mountain that King Minh Mang visited the most. It was in the 1825 (6th year of Minh Mang), 1827 (7th year) and 1837 (18th year). The two paths up the mountain were built by King Minh Mang for the first time.
