Located on the Ho Chi Minh route, Chay countryside is a tourist destination on the journey to discover Phong Nha - Ke Bang. Coming to Chay village, visitors can enjoy the rural specialties, walk in the forest, go picnic by bikes, take a sightseeing boat on the Chay river or join in agricultural production with local people.

Chay village is about 12 km from Phong Nha - Ke Bang Tourism Center, next to the Ho Chi Minh West branch road. The village belongs to the buffer zone of the Heritage, right at the northern gateway to the National Park, surrounded by rivers and mountains. The life of the people here relies heavily on forests.

In the past, when there was no Ho Chi Minh West branch road, people coming to Chay village had to row boats through a waterfall or walked a dozen kilometers because it is almost isolated from the outside world.

Tourism in Chay village

Currently, Chay village has built 3 wooden houses, of which one house is a place to welcome visitors and introduce tours, and the remaining two houses serve as accommodation for about 15 guests each turn.

The residence here is built according to the design of the countryside houses which has a small area and does not separate the space. This community tourism model is also equipped with 10 terrain bikes and 4 kayaks for tourists.

Guests can spend the night at the family hostel with traditional wooden houses and experience the rural life, enjoy rustic dishes such as taro, green tea, Phien orange, etc.

Coming to Chay village community-based tourism model, in addition to participating in the "3 together" - eating together, staying together, and working together with indigenous people, the most important thing is that tourists can take part in adventure activities in the deep forest such as sailing across the river and exploring many spectacular caves.

The combination of ideas from simple things in the countryside gives unexpectedly good results. When participating in adventure tours into deep forests, visitors can use local ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, brown rice, sesame salt to make food, eat vegetables and fruits in the gardens such as potatoes, cassava, oranges, sugarcane, bananas, etc. for dessert, use tea leaves as drinks, and make use of wood, broken tree pieces as sticks to go to the forest, etc.

Compared to some other localities in the country, the community-based tourism model of Chay village is not new. However, because it is a specific area in Phong Nha - Ke Bang buffer zone, it has great significance in protecting the environment.
